The people behind the boat.
VMG Trimarans was founded on a clear idea of what a modern performance trimaran should be — and built by the right people to make it happen.

A collaborative effort.
VMG Trimarans was founded by Mike Schwartz and Karl Reed,
who shared a clear and considered vision for what the VMG 53 should be. Bringing that vision to life meant finding the right partners, and they did. VPLP of France, naval architects with a long track record in high-performance multihull design, lead the design of the hull and sail plan. CCA, also based in France, handle the interior design with the attention to detail the boat demands. TYD in England manage the structural and systems engineering, while EMM in South Africa, an experienced and highly regarded performance boatbuilder, handle manufacture. It' s a strong team, working on a project they believe in.
Our team

VPLP – Naval Architecture, France
Founded in 1983, VPLP Design are one of France’s most respected naval architecture studios, with a long track record in high-performance multihull design. Their portfolio spans record-breaking racing trimarans through to some of the world’s most sailed cruising catamarans. For the VMG 53, they bring the hull design and sail plan expertise that sits at the very foundation of the project.

CCA – Interior Design, France
Christophe Chedal Anglay brings a distinctly considered approach to yacht interiors — one shaped by a background in industrial design and a focus on spaces that are as functional as they are refined. His work spans performance multihulls through to superyachts, including award-winning interiors recognised by European Yacht of the Year. On the VMG 53, CCA has shaped the interior experience across the boat — bringing the same attention to detail to every living space aboard.

Evolution Marine Manufacturing – Build & Manufacture, South Africa
Based in Cape Town, Evolution Marine Manufacturing specialise in high-quality composite construction for performance sailing yachts. Led by Oliver Dawson, whose career spans over 25 years in composites, and supported by Stefan Falcon with over four decades of hands-on boatbuilding experience, EMM bring the craftsmanship and technical rigour the VMG 53 demands.

Thorne Yacht Design – Engineering, United Kingdom
Thorne Yacht Design, based in Lymington, Hampshire, provide naval architecture, structural engineering and systems design across the full lifecycle of a build. Founded by Eliot Thorne, whose career includes performance catamaran development across South Africa and China, Thorne bring focused, practical engineering expertise to the VMG 53 programme.
Throughout the history of sailing, design has been defined by compromise. Volume at the expense of speed. Performance without appropriate safety and control. Achieving a different outcome demands a new rulebook and an entirely new platform.
It required an entirely new architectural approach and willingness to challenge long-standing convention.
The VMG 53 is the answer.
